About Niantic Public House
Behold the turtle, he only makes progress by sticking his neck out.
In 2002, Todd Sakowski began home brewing with the assistance of his Mentor, Paul Zocco of Zoks Home Brewing & Wine Supplies, in his parent’s home. Eventually, Todd’s experimenting led to a small house fire (no injuries, phew!), a busted stove and one angry mama. In an effort not to replace another stove, Todd’s mom purchased his first ½ barrel home brewing system (Thanks Terry!) that led to the creation of many unique and flavorful brews over the next 12 years.
With the support friends, family, and some not-so-subtle encouragement from, Jenny, Todd realized it was time to come out of his shell and share his passion for brewing with Southeastern Connecticut. Niantic Public House was established in 2015 and a year later, the perfect spot in the heart of downtown Niantic was secured and renovations began. During this time, Todd and Jenny worked closely with local officials to change the zoning and bring a brewery to downtown. In April 2016, the East Lyme Zoning Regulations were amended to facilitate breweries producing less than 5,000 barrels annually and the race to open up shop began.
It’s been a long road with many hurdles as Todd, Jenny, family and friends completed all the brewery build-out on their own time in between work hours. Years of hard work, determination and overcoming several unforeseen challenges finally led to Niantic Public House & Brewery quietly opened in the fall of 2018 with a big bash in May 2019!
